Breaking up is hard to do and takes enough of a toll on you emotionally and mentally but according to a new study, it also takes a pretty significant toll on you financially.
Turns out women spend an average of $779 on reinventing themselves after a relationship ends. Here's how that breaks down . . .
$144 on a new hairdo.
$62 on tanning.
$192 on new clothes.
$96 on new shoes.
$76 on new make-up.
$81 on manicures and pedicures.
$128 on a gym membership, boot camp, and other attempts to get into shape.
On top of that, the average woman also spends $109 a week going out once they're single.  And 11% immediately buy an online dating membership.
Finally, the study also found that 6% of women say they've spent around $829 on plastic surgery and botox after they've being dumped.

Monday, after only 72 days after marrying NBA star Kris Humphries Kim Kardashian filed for divorce. That's 13 days shorter than their engagement lasted! The too-old-to-not- know-better reality TV star cited "irreconcilable differences" and said she made her decision after careful consideration. But many media outlets, and Twitter users have suggested the wedding may have been a scam for money. When you look at the fact that their four-hour long TV special featuring their wedding and the rights to wedding photos to magazines earned the pair $18 million, you can understand why people are calling fowl play. That works out to about $250,000 per day of marriage! Obviously marriage is supposed to be a sacred union between two committed people who know (and anticipate) trials and tribulations to come in the years that lye ahead. Kim Kardashian gave it her all for 72 days and then just gave up? Really? She should get a helmet because life can be tough and she clearly can't handle it. In the court paperwork she filed she asked that Kris not be entitled to any of her money (The Kardashians made 65 million last year and Kris made 3.2 million because the lock out technically left him unemployed) which just goes to show you that money can't buy happiness or happily-ever-after. Not the real kind at least. So, here is to turning off the TV and putting down the tabloids and spending time with the one you love instead.

Today is a big day as ghosts and goblin's come out to have fun and fright each other. We all love Halloween and here are some fun facts about this big day.
Chocolate makes up about three-quarters of a trick-or-treaterâs loot, according to the National Confectioners Association.
According to Real Simple, candy corn has been made with the same recipe by the Jelly Belly Candy Company since around 1900. The recipe includes sugar, corn syrup, and marshmallows.
Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween.
The National Retail Federation estimated consumers in 2010 spent $66.28 per person on Halloween costumes, cards, and candy.
The Washington Post reports 90 percent of parents admit to sneaking goodies from their kidsâ trick-or-treat bags. Oh, parents!Â
Illinois is the leading pumpkin-producing state with an estimated 427 million pounds of the vined orange gourd stated the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

What makes your house a home in the uniquely "you" touches that reflect your personal style. But when you go to sale your home you'll want to stage it in a way that is affordable and appeals to the most potential buyers. Here are some tips on how to make quick and easy changes with impact.
KITCHEN: The kitchen is still considered the heart of the home. Potential home buyers make a beeline for this room when they first view a home for sale, so make sure your kitchen looks clean and reasonably updated.
For a few hundred dollars, you can replace the kitchen faucet set, add new cabinet door handles and update old lighting fixtures with brighter, more energy-efficient ones.
If you've got a slightly larger budget, you can give the cabinets themselves a makeover. "Rather than spring for a whole new cabinet system, which can be expensive, look into hiring a refacing company," says serial remodeler Gwen Moran, co-author of "Build Your Own Home on a Shoestring."
"Many companies can remove cabinet doors and drawers, refinish the cabinet boxes, then add brand-new doors and drawers. With a fresh coat of paint over the whole set, your cabinets will look like new."
If you're handy, you can order your own replacement cabinet doors and door fronts from retailers like Lowe's Home Improvement or The Home Depot and install them yourself.
BATHROOM: Next to the kitchen, bathrooms are often the most important rooms to update. They, too, can be improved without a lot of cash. "Even simple things like a new toilet seat and a pedestal sink are pretty easy for homeowners to install, and they make a big difference in the look of the bath," says Moran.
Replacing an old, discolored bathroom floor with easy-to-apply vinyl tiles or a small piece of sheet vinyl. "You may not even need to take up the old floor. You can install the new floor right over the old one," she says.
If your tub and shower are looking dingy, consider re-grouting the tile and replacing any chipped tiles. A more complete cover-up is a prefabricated tub and shower surround. These one-piece units may require professional installation but can still be cheaper than paying to re-tile walls and refinish a worn tub.
STORAGE: Old houses, particularly, are notorious for their lack of closet space. If you have cramped storage areas, Realtor Moe Viessi of Miami suggests adding do-it-yourself wire and laminate closet systems to bedrooms, pantries and entry closets.
Firms like ClosetMaid allow you to measure and redesign your closets online. You can also get design details and parts for these systems at many large home-improvement stores. Most closets can be updated in a weekend or less.
In the end, your closets will be more functional while you're living in the house and will make your home look more customized to potential buyers when you're ready to sell.
LIGHT: If you have boring recessed lights in your dining and living rooms, consider replacing one of the room's lights with an eye-catching chandelier. Home stores offer a wide range of inexpensive, but nice-looking, ceiling fixtures these days. If you have a ceiling fan and light, you can also buy replacement fan blades (leaving the fan body in place) to update the fixture's look.
CURB APPEAL: Although it sounds obvious, a nicely mowed lawn, a few well-placed shrubs and a swept walkway makes a great first impression. "What buyers see when they first drive by your home is tremendously important," says Viessi.
If you don't have a green thumb, consider hiring a landscaper to install some new sod, plant a few evergreen shrubs and give your front yard a good cleanup. "These kinds of changes can instantly change people's perception of your home and, therefore, increase its value," says Viessi. And hey, your neighbors will love you for it, too.

We see these lists every year, but if you're picking out your Halloween candy this week, "Reader's Digest" has a list of the unhealthiest Halloween candies you can buy. Obviously, ALL candy is bad for you (darn it!), but here are the top five.
--And remember, the recommended daily limit for processed sugar in a 2,000 calorie diet is about 40 grams, or between 100 and 150 calories. That's about eight teaspoons.
#1.) Twizzlers. They don't have much fat, but they're basically just sugar . . . which turns to fat in your body if you don't burn it off. And one Twizzler has about 35 calories and five grams of sugar.
#2.) Fun-Sized Butterfingers. Each one has 45 calories, and two grams of fat. So if you have four of them and weigh 150 pounds, you'd have to walk about 30 minutes to burn it off.
#3.) Fun-Sized Baby Ruth. Just one has upwards of 80 calories, four grams of fat, and 10 grams of sugar. It's mostly because of the chocolate-and-peanuts combo.
#4.) Fun-Sized Mounds. They're dark chocolate and have coconut filling, which might SOUND healthier. But one bar has 4.5 grams of fat, 7 grams of sugar, and 80 calories.
#5.) Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins. They're the Halloween version of Peanut Butter Cups, and they're probably the worst.
--Instead of two small pieces, you get one big one that has 180 calories, 16 grams of sugar, and 11 grams of fat.
--The peanut butter is the main reason it's so bad. And just to put it in perspective, if you eat two of them, that's 60 more calories than a McDonald's cheeseburger!

MiaDonna&Co. was created by consumers in search of conflict-free diamond, gem and precious metal alternatives and a superior buying experience. When I was introduced to owners Anna-Meika and Trevor years ago I was impressed by their determination to find a solution to the destruction the diamond industry had created in general, and in Africa in particular. They have not only created a company, but started a mission to give back. Years later I am even more impressed by what they have accomplished and how many people they have helped with thier tireless efforts. Today we sat down with Anna-Meika and she told us, in addition to the mission, customer satisfaction is also a huge priority and you can be assured that when you purchase from MiaDonna.com you have a worry free 15 day trial period and a life time of benefits from being apart of the MiaDonna Culture. MiaDonna is a local company that has got a lot of national attention and their delivery system is designed to give you the identical presentation and quality you would expect from the most trendy brick and mortar boutique stores. I visited their headquarters last week in preparation for today's on-air interview and I can tell you that the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid® is the most beautiful, scientifically advanced man made diamond alternative ever created. It is just down right cool!  And since every ring at MiaDonna & Company automatically comes set with a Diamond Hybrid® center stone you can have that special designer quality ring you have always wanted and know for sure that it does not have a past that could include destruction or death. Anna-Meike and Trevor have traveled to Africa many times to help the people and see what the diamond industry is responsible for, "I have seen terrible things" she told me shaking her head. They started the Greener Diamond Foundation to give back and my brand, Nicolle Shops Portland, has been a proud supporter for their cause. You can learn more and see the beautiful jewelry on their website at www.MiaDonna.com.

One thing people love most about the holidays is getting together with family and friends. But with all the other things to do on your holiday list cleaning your house for Norman Rockwell style entertaining may not be possible. No time to dust or disinfect? No problemâ¦here is how you can fake a cleaning house courtesy of Real Simple Magazine.
The Kitchen
Reserve one side of sofa cushions to be shown to guests. Before company arrives, flip over the cushions to reveal good-as-new fabric. Viola!
Stack books, catalogs, magazines and mail in neat piles or arrange them in a deep decorative basket.
To disguise windows in need of washing, pull curtain panels closed.
Fold a clean blanket neatly and drape it over a stained sofa. Strategically placed throw pillows can also camouflage soiled upholstery.
The Kitchen
When the dishwasher is full and the sink is overflowing, stow dirty dishes in the oven and silverware in a big stockpot .
Cover up the lingering aroma of last nightâs supper by boiling nutmeg, cloves, or cinnamon and orange peels in a sauce-pan on the stove. Â It will smell Christmas-y.
Declutter the refrigerator by taking down notes, drawings, and magnets and throwing them in a plastic bag. Sort through it later, and by later I mean never.
The Bathroom
Light a candle. Everything looks better (and cleaner) by candlelight.
Hang a fluffy bathrobe on top of damp towels dangling from the hooks on the back of the door.
Hang fresh guest towels. The humidity in this room makes textiles look droopy, even after a recent machine washing.
Mound cosmetics and hairstyling products in a container underneath the sink. In a pinch, pile them in the tub and close the shower curtain. Cross your fingers that guests donât snoop.
The Home Office
Stash stray office supplies, like pencils and pens, in decorative stationery boxes or filing containers on your desk.
Rearrange crooked books so that all spines are facing the same direction and the titles all read from top to bottom.
Temporarily hide wayward Post-it notes and to-do lists underneath the keyboard.
The Kids' Room
Stow pajamas under the pillow. This way, theyâre off the floor and ready for later.
Put blocks in a handled shopping bag and hang it on a hanger inside the closet.
Put homeless stuffed animals in extra pillowcases. Or prop them up behind shams.
Pile books neatly on the floor, largest to smallest, next to a chair or a desk.
Spritz a deodorizer spray around to eliminate odors.
The Laundry Room
Fold clean towels neatly and put all lingerie items in a mesh bag.
Fold up and place the ironing board tuck in the far corner of the room or behind the door.
Pile any laundry that needs to be folded in baskets or storage containers.
As for dirty clothes awaiting washing, simply toss them in the washer.

Your Facebook page changed a few days ago. But Mark Zuckerberg isn't done with you yet. Here are more changes they announced that are coming soon.
#1.) The Timeline. Facebook is planning to do a massive overhaul of your profile so it shows your entire life on a timeline.  Remember that wall post you made in 2007?  No?  Facebook does, and now it'll be there as you scroll back in time.
--You can also go back to the years before you were on Facebook . . . before Facebook existed . . . all the way back to your birth.
--And you can add photos and memories, and make Facebook a scrapbook of your whole life.  At first it'll just be an option, but eventually it'll be the default.
#2.) There's More to Do Than "Like." Instead of having just a "Like" button for everything, Facebook and other developers can create buttons that say anything. For example, you could click a button to say you're "Watching" something on Netfilx.
--You'll also be able to watch shows on Hulu or Netflix, listen to music on streaming services, and read stories on major sites at the same time as your friends, without leaving Facebook. Just not yet in the U.S. . . . privacy laws make that illegal right now.
#3.) No More Farmville in Your News Feed. Right now there's the main news feed in the center, and the scrolling feed on the right. The main one will have stuff like relationship changes and photos. Stuff like FarmVille will be smaller and on the side.

In this economy, you'd think people would be tempted to fudge their resumes to increase their chances of getting hired. And you'd be right.
--A survey by a national temp agency called OfficeTeam found that people have been doing just that.
--One out of five people surveyed said they know someone who lied on their resume.
--The most common lie job applicants tell is about their previous job duties. 58% of resume liars embellish their responsibilities at their old company.
--The next most common lie is on education, with 34% of dishonest resumes embellishing that part. Â Next are employment dates and job experience.
--But the liars aren't fooling as many people as they think. 43% of hiring managers say they think applicants are often dishonest on their resumes.
--One red flag is when you describe your skills in an ambiguous way. Phrases like "familiar with" and "involved in" could mean you're hiding your lack of real experience in that area.

Last year I got a call from a couple people who were about to open a swanky bar here in Portland and wanted my help finding authentic pictures of the area back in the 1930âs along with some âprohibitionâ artwork. As a shopping expert I get a lot of strange orders for quirky finds but this challenge was one of the hardest. That bar opened up and turned out to be quite the hot spot and now they turn one! Circa33 opened its doors last October and the Belmont neighborhood made this haunt a quick favorite. Now Circa33 is celebrating with a Hoppy Birthday party. Everyone is invited to the party that is sure to be a great time and Circa 33 co-owner, Josh Johnston said, âwe figured that a Fresh Hop Brew-Fest is an annual tradition we could get behind and our one-year anniversary is the perfect occasion to start.â Fresh hop beers are made with hops picked off the vine within 24 hrs, thus giving these beers an extremely fresh, complex flavor profile. Come try some for yourself at Circa33âs Hoppy Birthday Party Saturday, October 1st from 4pm to midnight. The evening will feature over ten local brewers with their seasonal fresh hop beers available but come early as these exceptional kegs are rare and wonât last long!  There will also be great food and live music by Trash Can Joe starting at 7pm. Event mugs & tokens will be available at the door. Come celebrate the last year at Circa33, cheers!

They've done lots of scientific studies over the years to figure out what turns women on. Here are the five big findings that'll make women uncontrollably drawn to you (according to Science)...so get on it!
#1.) A Deep Voice. Deep voices aren't just signs of manliness, studies have also found they're more memorable. And women are biologically attracted to men who stick in their memories.
#2.) A Feminine Look. Women look for LESS masculine men when they want to settle down. Because there's a better chance those guys will stick around. So full lips and gentle cheek bones beat a square jaw and big muscles.
#3.) Wearing Red. A study out of the University of Rochester found that men who wear red are perceived by women to be better looking and higher status.
#4.) One Mood. Women are LEAST attracted to moody men. They preferred everything else: Guys who looked content, proud, or powerful.
#5.) Scars. A man with a scar on his face is more attractive to a woman in the short-term, because he looks BRAVE or DARING. Women look at men with scars on the face for one-night stands, though . . . not long-term relationships.
by Mornings with Nicolle Camarata,posted Nov 4 2011 1:24PM
Here's a collection of five different studies that found different traits scientifically proven to turn men on. Enjoy . . .
#1.) Not Being Funny. At least, don't be funnier than the guy. Men want a woman with a sense of humor . . . but that means laughing at HIS jokes more than making your own.
#2.) Full Lips. A study in England found that when women wear lipstick, men look at their lips for an average of seven seconds . . . and spend less than two seconds on looking at their eyes and hair combined. So, prominent lips attract men.
#3.) Brown Hair. A study by a social dating site called Badoo found that men overwhelmingly prefer brown and black hair to blonde hair.Â
#4.) Wearing Red. When a woman wears red, it gets a guy's attention AND makes him start feeling a little juiced up sexually. And that's all subconscious, so he's developing an attraction to you and doesn't realize it's happening.
#5.) Long Arms. In a study out of Sydney, women with long arms were perceived as more attractive than women with long legs. In fact, no other trait corresponded to men rating women attractive as much as long arms.

Every woman I know thinks that guys with bald heads are sexy! Real sexy. So, I never understood why so many men obsess about the thought of losing their hair. But if you want to have a full head of hair scientist have been hard at work compiling a list of foods that may help. Kidney beans, prunes, green peas, and shrimp contain vitamins and minerals that can help battle hair loss. As well as walnuts, pumpkin seeds ans steel cut oats. They possess iron, zinc, omega 6 fatty acids which research shows is essential for hair growth. Eggs are on the healthy hair diet because of the B-7 in them which fights against hair loss. The final two foods, which don't sound as good is sardines and calf liver. Yes, calf liver. Those are the top ten things you should have on your plate if you want to keep your hair on your head.

Have you hugged your U.S. Marshal lately? If not, today is a great time as Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski signed a proclamation proclaiming September 24th to be U.S. Marshals Day in Oregon and encouraged all Oregonians to join in this observance! If you are wondering what U.S. Marshals do (besides look hot in their uniforms) here is an excerpt from the proclamation signed in Salem three years ago:
During 220 years of service, the U.S. Marshals have executed warrants, distributed presidential proclamations, registered enemy aliens in time of war, helped conduct the national censes, protected the President and the Federal courts, provided for the custody and transportation of federal prisoners, maintained and disposed of seized and forfeited properties, ensured the same conduct of judicial proceedings, protected Federal judges and jurors, and other members of the federal judiciary, provided for the security of witnesses and directed and coordinated fugitive task forces to apprehend dangerous fugitives.
I can tell you as the wife of a U.S. Marshal that my husband Cory Cunningham and the people he works with on the task force work very hard to keep us all safe. It is a great group of hard-working compassionate individuals that work as a team to keep crime off the streets. So here is to U.S. Marshal's!!

On the show we talked about four secrets to be a happy couple and the science behind how they talk to each other. If you want to have a great romantic relationship, here they are:
1.) They share similar speech patterns. According to a study from the "Journal of Personality and Social Psychology", couples who speak using the same tone, inflection, and phrases are happier than couples with different speech patterns.
2.) They say "we" instead of "me". Couples who use words like "we", "us", and "our" are more connected than couples who tend to say "I" or "me". The thinking is that creating a shared indentity, it is easier to face challenges together.
3.) Their conversations include more substantial topics. According to research published in "Psychological Science", couples who spend more time discussing topics with more meaning are more satisfied than couples who mostly make small talk.
4.) They use secret or endearing terms together. When couples call each other pet names like "honey" or "baby" they're actually bonding as a couple.

Summer is coming to an end, sadly, shich means cold and flu season is right around the corner. Often people think the cold weather is what makes them get sick...but not true. People get sick more often in the winter because they are exposed to each other more in the winter than in the summer and pass the virus more readily. So it is important to wash your hands but what about once you are sick or in need of advanced medical care? With the unemployment rate the way it is and people out of work sometimes individual health care suffers because they are not "covered". Are you getting the best health care you could be? Thatâs the question that the folks behind Care About Your Care are asking people to consider this month. Oregon is part of this nationwide effort to raise awareness of what YOU can do to get the best possible care for you and your family. And today a local nonprofit, the Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation, is joining forces with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and other health agencies for Care About Your Care events around the country. The national event in Washington D.C. features TVâs Dr. Oz. and he believes that helping people understand how to get high-quality health care is a top priority.

The "freshman 15" is the dreaded weight gain experienced by back-to-schoolers who are hitting the books hard, but not the gym. But since your brain needs nutrients to function its best not to skip snacks, just make them healthy and low-calorie.   Here is a list of snacks that hit the nutritional targets below:
About 200 calories: This is enough to keep your metabolism humming, says Bethany Thayer, a registered dietitian in Detroit.
At least 3 grams of fiber: Fiber is digested slowly and helps sustain your energy. It also absorbs water and expands in your stomach to keep you full.
At least 5 grams of protein: Protein releases a hormone in the body that increases satiety and it feeds your muscles.
No more than 12 grams of fat: This will help ensure that you donât get more than 20 to 35 percent of your daily calories from fat, which is the U.S. Department of Agricultureâs recommendation.

I said goodbye to the hubby and kids last week and realized I had the house to myself and decided it was time to reduce my monstrous wardrobe. After being on TV for almost a decade I had accumulated A LOT of clothes! Some I only wore annually for certain stories, like the rhinestone ridiculousness I would report from the Rodeo in, or the pants covered in paint for our yearly do-it-yourself episode. Costume's really.  So I set out to examine and try on everything I owned in seven days. I thought I had plenty of time but by the end of day one I had only made my way through the tank tops and my sock drawers. Hmmmm, might be more time consuming then I thought and why I had procrastinated this project for so long. After work each day I would turn up the tunes and return to my closet for scrutinizing fashion shows and spent days in my room asking myself questions I couldn't answer. Why have I kept one flip-flop for three years?  Did I really think the other one I lost at the beach was going to show up someday? Do I actually wear hats, or just collect them? Was this a gift? My pile of tank tops, attitude tees, outdated footwear, and dresses that are as old as my daughters grew larger. Then handbags, headbands, and scarves hit the floor. My size hasn't changed since highschool, which is good in general, but equates into a closet that is more like a time capsule. For example, I guess I saved my Samantha Fox concert tee to wear to her next concert...the one she never had. It took all seven days but I got through all of my clothing and accessories and actually found some things I thought I had lost. Sadly, not the "other" flip-flop, however. Since most of us wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time I am not alone in having ill-fitted, old, or out of date clothing that needs to be donated or plain thrown away. Clean out your closets and go through your drawers to purge what you don't like and won't wear. Bags of mine went to Goodwill, some designer things went to consignment stores and when my daughters came home they were quick to fight about some party dresses they had always wanted. Organizing, like Fashion, is not for everyone but now that I am left with a current closet I love, I can get back to shopping Portland.

To say I am a Prince fan in an understatement. I've had a fish named purple rain and followed the artists formally known as Prince way before and after her was the artist formally known as. Well, ten years ago I was at a Prince concert in downtown Portland and Prince called me up on stage and I got to dance with him. Ahhhhh! He said he liked my shirt and swirled me around. I swore I would never get rid of that shirt, wash my hand, or forget that night but also was bummed that none of the friends with me thought fast enough to take a picture of this once-in-a-lifetime moment. Fast forward five years and I was at the Prince concert in Seattle with my bestest Jen. It was a great concert (like all Prince concerts are) and at one point I was asked to come up on stage and dance with Prince. OMG. Of course I ran up there and shook what my momma gave me. I couldn't believe it happened again, years later and in a completely different state. Clearly, I am his "type" I lied to myself. And this time Jen thought fast and snapped a couple pictures of Prince and I on stage! He likes to include his female audience members in his show so I was not the first one invited and obviously not the last. In fact Kim Kardashian had the same thing happened to her recently. Prince called Kim up on stage during a concert and wanted her to dance with him. He was in a gold suit, she was in a gold dress, and it almost seemed like the two had planned it. But when Kim wouldn't boogie, he booted her butt off stage, saying "Get off the stage." Her take on the situation was that Prince was rude and even went on to complain to her friend (who just happens to be Prince's ex-wife). Poor Kim? Maybe it's just me but I think Prince was probably baffled why she wouldn't dance with him for a couple minutes. She later told reporters that she does not dance and was really embarrassed. What do you mean she doesn't dance?  She was on Dancing with the Stars! If you agree to be on that show and endure countless hours of rehearsal and dance lessons people are going to assume you can dance...right?! Well, I am sure she has bigger things on her mind because Kim is getting married this weekend to baller Kris Humphries and chances are dancing is not invited, or Prince.

I grew up here and in great Northwest tradition, I have camped as a kid with my family, as a rowdy bunch of teenagers without a tent but had a tarp, as a couple on a romantic getaway, and as a parent with the more is merrier cul-de-sac crowd. And in that time I have learned some Doâs and Donât that I can pass along to you if you are going to invade the outdoors this summer. Donât leave your shoes outside of the tent at bed time because it makes it rain through the night, Murphyâs Law. Do pack all your old, ugly, ill-fitted and stained clothing to wear and then burn it in campfire the last night. Donât under estimate how bored your kids will with Mother Nature. This generation was raised on technology and would rather be on twitter then actually watch a bird tweet. Do bring them something to do like an ice cream ball, these affordable balls come in a couple sizes and can be found at REI or Dickâs Sporting Goods and you fill them with ice, cream and sugar and then toss it around for 20minutes to make the best ice cream you have ever had. If you donât have kids and you are going with a bunch of other couples, Donât think that your tent is soundproofâ¦lovebirds. It is nylon and they can hear you.

Bro Dogs, one of Portlandâs famous and much-beloved food carts, opened back in 2009 when the City's food cart scene exploded. Located at SW 5th and Stark Bro Dog takes an ordinary sidewalk treat and makes it extraordinary. Eaters take their pick from a varied list of dogs and pile the toppings on. Choices include mushrooms, bacon, cream cheese, grilled onions, Fritosâ¦. and the list goes on! The dog only gets better with the bun, which isnât a bun at all. To keep that heap of messy toppings safely contained, bro dogs are served on a bagel-ly sort of grilled flatbread that adds to the chewy, gooey goodness. Mmmm. Their jalapeno cheddar dog has been accused of being the single best hangover cure ever by "Don" on on-line reviewer. You can find out more information and meals on wheels at www.foodcartsportland.com.

It took me two minutes and fifteen seconds to run upstairs and put on my pjâs and brush my teeth when I was a kid. I had to hurry so I didnât miss any of my favorite shows, which all came on after my bedtime.  My Mom would let me stay up an extra half hour to watch Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. We lived on a dairy farm and the giant heated pools and sprawling estates featured in the show seemed like another world to me. My Mom would watch me as I watched Robin Leach give a tour of the finer life. I would cheers my apple juice to his fabulousness and go to bed dreaming of champagne and caviar. Fast forward twenty-some years as I rush out of my Vegas hotel room to go meet Robin himself in Bobby Flayâs kitchen. Anyone who knows me knows I am a food network addict, watching everything from Throwdown to Boy Meets Grill, both which Bobby hosts. Now donât get me wrong, I have done some pretty cool things in my life, like danced with Prince on stage, (twice in two different states!),  skateboarded with Arvil Levigne in Seattle, and swapped make-up tips back stage with Gwen Stafani,  but I was actually a little nervous to hang out with the foodie fellas. Black dressâ¦check, microphoneâ¦check, questionsâ¦check, I thought to myself on the walk to Mesa Grill where Bobby and Robin were mixing up margaritas and swapping stories. When I left Portland to go interview a list of celebrities in Sin City, all who only have first names, my friends were jealous but I was most excited about these two and they were easy to talk to, and very funny.  I got my interview and I found out some things I didnât know, like Robin started the Food Network and Bobby Flayâs employees adore him. Over the next few days I went to countless parties, ate like a queen at the Vegas Uncorked events, and eventually went dancing and played lots of poker with Bobby and his adoring staff. I think I represented Oregon well, since they kept saying, âMiss Nicolle Camarata, do all the women âback homeâ look like you?â Always one to help Portlandâs tourism I said, âOf course they doâ but kept secretly thinking I donât even really look like me without the hair and make-up custom for TV. If you want a great cookbook for the summer, pick up Bobby Flayâs Burgers, Fries, and Shakes. He is a great chef and one hell of a guy. Here is the video of Bobby and Robin with me in Vegas...

I am the MC at The Bite of Oregon this weekend and in honor of the Northwest's dedication to the culinary arts I am giving tickets away all week on my show "Mornings with Nicolle Camarata 6-9am." It is easy to win! I'll ask you a food related question on-air at 7am and you post your answer on the Charlie facebook page at www.facebook.com/mycharlieportland and if I choose your answer you will win a four-pack of weekend passes good for all three days! The Bite of Oregon starts Friday and this year the event features Food Network Stars, tons of local restaurants and the best local musicians all on the waterfront! Today we asked what the best sweet thing you ever ate was and MAX won with Strawberry Stuffed French Toast answer...yum! He was nice enough to share the recipe (thanks MAX) and here it is...
Strawberry Stuffed French Toast
3 eggs
1/2 cup of milk
Maple flavored french toast bread (you can find this at almost any Winco location)
1 tub of sliced strawberries found in your local grocer's freezer section
1 tub of whipped cream cheese
powdered sugar for garnish
Preheat skillet on medium heat. In a bowl, mix eggs and milk together. This will be used to dipped the sandwich in, just like you would for regular french toast. To assemble the sandwich, spread cream cheese on two slices of bread. Top one slice with strawberries. Add the other slice on top.
Once all sandwiches are prepared, dip in egg wash and then place in skillet. Brown on each side for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown.
When fully cooked on both sides, place the stuffed toast on a place and top with powdered sugar, and strawberries. Serve and as always, enjoy!!

Did you know that within three seconds of a woman meeting a man, sheâs already made important decisions about his character, work, and level of education?! All before he has even had a chance to utter a single word! This cultural snap-judgment can be particularly scary in the dating world when a man is trying to meet Mrs. Right. That is where relationship coach and personal stylist Rachael Lorenz comes in! She teaches Men how to make those first few seconds count and how to express their character and personality inside and out and she has been doing it for years and been successful for hundreds of clients. It starts with image. âAttracting the right types of women means looking as attractive on the outside as you are on the insideâ, Rachael Lorenz elaborated, âYour look is your brand, and the key to successful dating. Women work hard on their appearance and know who they are and consequently the Men they want to date also have to.â Then Rachael teaches her clients how to navigate through the dating game and teaches them the always-changing rules so they can win over the girl of their dreams. âUnfortunately, many women arrive at a place where theyâve had too many bad experiences with men, and are less willing to simply let nature simply take its course and, for better or worse, theyâre armed with dating rules, and are playing the game,â Rachael Lorenz told us when she came to the Charlie studios with her doting husband to be featured on âMornings with Nicolle Camarata from 6-9amâ. The whole staff found her very charming, articulate, and knowledgeable and if you are in the market for happily-ever-after you should check out her website and seek a consultation at www.sheshouldhaveit.com.

In 2008 I said that Cory wasn't really the boyfriend type. He wasn't a "player" or dramatic and game playing like the boyfriends I had in the past. He was extremely honest, sweet, loyal and hard-working. He was the marrying kind of man you hope you find but hesitate to even dream he is out there. He was also very patient and not the jealous type, which came in handy when Portland Monthly Magazine named me one of the City's three most eligible bachelorettes that year. Now I know him much better then I did in 2008 and the list of good things I could tell you grows longer each day. Along with all the smiles and good times I have seen him handle misfortune, injustice and injury all with incredible grace. I've also fallen head over heels for his two kids as he has with mine. We've got a good thing going! We are lucky because our relationship started off sans any scandal and it has unfolded like a fairy tale ever since. Now we are taking that fairy tale to the "happily ever after" part with a wedding this weekend and I'll once and for all prove he is not the boyfriend type when he becomes my husband. Though he is a little shy I wanted to introduce you properly to the man I call home, Mr. Cory Cunningham.Â

Iâve always considered myself a shopper but lately my list has been unusually long! Iâm getting married and man, olâ man, you wouldn't believe how many things you have to buy that you never even think of  in your ânormalâ life. I donât run around the streets of Portland wearing a garter under my dresses, or top my homemade Birthday cakes with figurines, or spend hours with my friendly florist picking out bouquets and boutonnieresâ¦.usually. So when I needed a cake topper that expressed the personality of me and Mr. Right I asked my friend and bakery owner Lisa Watson where to go. She suggested New and Blue, an adorable shop around the corner from hers, Cupcake Jones. New and Blue is located at 1321 NW Hoyt Street and they have traditional and nontraditional stationary, gifts, decorations, favors and yes, cake toppers! Where as my local craft store only had a couple to choose from New and Blue had a couple dozen with creative designs from a couple kissing under an umbrella (very Portland!) to a bride on the back of her grooms Harley. Even though Mr. Perfects Dad would have looooved the Harley we went with the couple locked in a passionate embrace because we have been ridiculously "kissy face" ever since we met. However, the bride and groom were blonde and the shoes were not the bright red hue they will be come the big day so the owner of the shop suggested I paint them. Challenge accepted! I hand-painted the figurine to perfectly represent us and I also ordered a ton of signs from my new favorite shop. They created a custom design for our Mr. & Mrs. sign, our Just Married sign, our Guest Book, Welcome Guests, Rooftop, Photo Booth, Champagne Bar, and on and on sign. It is a easy to love and easy to find store with lots of services that are easy to use. If you are marrying someone you can't stop kissing, planning a party, know a bride or groom, or just like quality "girly" things I suggest you forgo the something old and something borrowed and check out New and Blue.

A boy named Giovanni and his girlfriend were visiting Italy and he gave her a piggy back ride through the cobblestone streets. During their travels they kept seeing a figurine in shop windows of a priest giving a nun a piggy back ride and despite their efforts no one seems to have it for sale. Display only. Eventually Giovanni found the figurine to give to his girl. As he went to leave the shop-keeper told the American boy that the shop was for sale and quotes him a price in Euros. The seed had been planted and the ceramics enthusiast, several girls and several years later, is now the proud proprietor of Sorella Luna, which means " sister moon" in Italian. The Ceramics and fine arts gallery offers masterpieces from Italy's most renowned regions for ceramics. They specialize in hand-crafted works using ancient designs that have been perfected for years. The store has been open a little over a year-and-a-half and is full of beautiful platters featuring portrait, geometrico, figures and fruit patterns and a complete selection of other table wares. They even have figurines, but the one of the boy giving the girl a piggy back ride is...in great Italian tradition...not for sale. Sorella Luna is located at 416 NS 12th Avenue in Portland Oregon and can be reached at 503-973-5862 and can is online at www.thesorellaluna.com.

Maybe they thought the talent pool would be small in Portland which is why they never held the American Idol auditions here before. Or maybe they looked at our neighboring small towns and thought that it'd be all Birkenstock and bangos, or big voices and even bigger hair...yikes. Well, what ever they thought they will know soon enough because American Idol auditions for the 11th season are finally coming to Portland for the first time July 2nd! Are you young, hot, and talented and ready to be a big star? Or maybe you are the next Susan Boyle? Make some room in your bank account and get ready for your big break. The Rose Quarter is host to Pre-registration which is June 30-July 1st and wristbands will be distributed to auditioners during pre-registration (tables open Thursday and remain open until Saturday morning). Once auditioners obtain their wristbands, they will be asked to return to the stadium early morning Saturday, July 2 to line up for their audition.

Beaches is a great restaurant just 10minutes from Portland, across the bridge by just a mile. They specialize is seafood, smiles, and a "everyone knows you name" atmosphere. They have a great happy hour, a deck that overlooks the Columbia River, ample seating, and a great kids menu. If you travel a lot they also have Beaches at the airport. Everyone has fun at the Beach and the owner Mark and his son Mychal make sure their restaurant lives up to its great reputation. They also help the community and this Friday Beaches is having a golf tournament to raise money for their foundation. The "Beachin' Bash on the Green" will benefit local kids in the Vancouver School District. Since I live with and love two kids in that district I couldn't say no when they asked me to be a celebrity player...so I said yes! They were nice enough to give me a fours0me for the shotgun tournament that starts at 1pm at Cedars Golf Course. Wish us luck! After the game comes to an end the luau fun and auction begins, what a fun way to spend a Friday. For more information you can call Ali at 360-699-1592. Â

I am really excited and honored because I have been asked to help at the Junior Rose Festival Parade! I have been told it can get a little crazy with all the bands, school groups, scout troops, children's organizations, youth clubs, dance teams, floats and four-legged fur balls in the parade. For many years, the parade featured members of the Junior Court. Today, children dress in costume, build colorful floats towed on wagons, or ride on bikes decorated with flowers, crepe paper, streamers and balloonsâsome of them future court members themselves! I have been in the parade several years but this year I am "taking it up a notch" and helping with formation and am a judge for the floats. It is going to be awesome and I am really looking forward to it. The Junior Rose Festival Parade is this Wednesday June 8th at 1pm and starts at Sacramento & 52nd Avenue in Northeast Portland. It is only one of dozens of events around town to celebrate the Rose Festival and you can find a complete list at www.rosefestival.org/events.

Is Portland the place where young pugs come to retire and leave the world of working dogs behind? Do Portland pugs tell other out-of-town pugs how great the City is? Is "putting a pug on it" a sure-fire way to become an artist in Portland? Come explore the answers to these and other pug-related questions at "Puglandia," the 11th Annual Oregon Humane Society Pug Crawl, happening Sunday May 22nd on the streets outside MacTarnhan's Taproom in Northwest Portland. Named in honor of the ground-breaking television show "Portlandia", Puglandia is expected to be the largest gathering of pugs on the West Coast, attracting an estimated 500 four-legged friends and more than 1,000 people. The highlight of the day is the Parade of Pugs, where, if past tradition holds, almost 100 costumed pugs will walk the runway and compete for the title of King or Queen of Puglandia. The Grand Marshall of this year's parade is my friend Anita Kissee, who is a news reporter for KATU2.  Kissee's pug, Sigmund, is a past Pug Crawl winner!  Other celebrity pugs should also be on hand and here is a super cute picture of two Pug's in the parade last year!

Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is 96 miles (154 km) south of Seattle, Washington and 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Portland, Oregon. Mount St. Helens is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980, at 8:32 am which was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States. Fifty-seven people were killed; 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles (24 km) of railways, and 185 miles (298 km) of highway were destroyed. A massive debris avalanche triggered by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, caused an eruption, reducing the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 ft (2,950 m) to 8,365 ft (2,550 m) and replacing it with a 1 mile (1.6 km) wide horseshoe-shaped crater. The earthquake was caused by a sudden surge of magma from the Earth's mantle. The debris avalanche was up to 0.7 cubic miles (2.9 km3) in volume. The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was created to preserve the volcano and allow for its aftermath to be scientifically studied.

Everywhere I go and everyone I talk to has something nice to say about Patrick Lamb. He is the Grammy nominated saxophonist that moved to Portland and quickly started winning the City's popularity contest. Maybe it is his ridiculously innocent smile, his humble upbringing or just the fact that when people hear him play they don't soon to forget it. I had a chance to sit down with my friend and talk about everything from his childhood to why he never had kids. If you don't own a Patrick Lamb CD you should treat yourself to this powerful and provocative music literally hand crafted by a one-of-a-kind artist. His new project promises to be more soulful and funkier then ever and you can reserve your copy beforehand at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/227813196/its-all-right-now-cd?ref=live because Patrick is giving his friends and fans exclusive access to the "It's All Right Now" experience. You can help fund the project in advance from ordering a signed CD or contruibuting enough to get a private performance and your name in the liner notes. I told you he was one-of-a-kind. With three days to go to meet his $7500. goal I hope you help my friend get to the Grammy's...again. Watch the whole interview and meet Patrick Lamb here http://www.charliefm.com/Videos/3987285.

When I think back to when I was a college student at Portland State University I think about two places I spent a lot of time studying, Powell's Books and Huber's Cafe. The book store is the biggest and the restaurant is the oldest in Portland. Powell's City of Books has their flagship location on W. Burnside and the historic building holds over a million books! Their is another location on NW 10th, one in Beaverton, one at the airport and two on Hawthorne (one especially for home and garden books). Powell's Book is cozy, quirky, and full of great stories...just like Portland. You can learn more at www.powells.com.
Another iconic hot-spot is Huber's Cafe. It is the oldest restaurant established in 1879 and was originally called The Bureau Saloon. They are known for Turkey dinners and Spanish coffees, and they make a lot of both. They make your Spanish coffee table-side and it is quite a show with flames and all! The restaurant is beautiful with old arch's and large mirrors. Huber's Cafe is still family owned and operated and a must stop when you are downtown on SW 3rd avenue. Learn more at www.Hubers.com.

Every City has things that make it special and Portland Oregon is known for bridges, bikes and beer! We have ten bridges and four of them majestically connect the east and west ends of town and five are draw bridges. The Hawthorne Bridge is the oldest, built in 1910 and is the oldest vertical bridge in the country. Underneath the Saint John's bridge you will find Cathedral Park that got its name because it feels like a church with the bridges design towering above. Thanks to all the bridges, bike riders can criss-cross the City with ease. Bike riding is a way of life in the Rose City and their are hundreds of retails and rides here. But one of the most fun places a bike enthusiast can visit is APEX Bar, on 12th and Division in Southeast Portland. It has lots of beer, lots of picnic tables and tons of bicycle parking. It is quite a sight on a busy weekend with dozens of bikes parked outside! A very mild biker bar, if you will. The owners combined their love of great beer from around the world with a life long passion for all things two-wheeled. And speaking of beer, Portland certainly knows how to celebrate great beer and great breweries! With more than 20 breweries in the metro area, Portland has more breweries than any other city in the country as has been dubbed, "Beervana" and "Beertown". Whether you're a beer aficionado, or you're just looking to have a cold pint, beer means more here. Of course Portland is also known for other things, for example the rainfall, strip clubs, and dog parks...but that's another lesson for another time.

To live here is to love it here! Portland Oregon has too many wonderful aspects to list but some things are less fact, and more flair, and you'd have to be a local to really be "in the know" about them. One is the annual Red Dress Party! It started as a party in the basement of a North Portland home and has become one of the most celebrated fundraising events in town. Next Spring it will be the 12th year of the event that knows how to put the fun back into fundraiser. Over 2000 men and women show up in their red dresses to party and raise money for Pivot, Q-Center, and the safe choices program of the YMCA Clark County.
Another way that Portland keeps it weird is by the local obsession of birds that recently got national attention when the televsion show, Portlandia coined the phrase, "Put a bird on it". The satire pokes fun at the city's DIY craft boom when characters Lisa & Bryce joke that if you just put a bird on it, you can call it art. Honestly, you can find the motif on purses, shirts, jewelry, etc, in most boutiques around town so, to me, it's funny because it's true. But what do you expect from a town that is surrounded by trees and nature? Even the culinary world has poked fun back by putting an egg on entrees. Many menus now feature creations that feature a fried or poached egg atop a savory dish. Which came first...the bird or the egg or Portland itself? Hard to say.

The royal wedding is this week and in honor of the big day we are finding out how wedding traditions have changed through the years. Here is the skinny on the proposal.
History: It was viewed as a formal contract between families. Often times the groom would send a group of friends or servants to state his intentions. The group would not continue on the journey if on the way they saw a monk, a nun, or a blind man. These were thought to be omens that the marriage would be doomed. If, however, they saw a nanny goat, a pigeon, or wolves, the union would be blessed with a lifetime of good fortune.
Modern Twist: Today, most couples become engaged as a matter of mutual agreement that, thankfully, has nothing to do with the sighting of omens. However, some couples still pay homage to the tradition by having the groom announce the engagement to the families after the bride-to-be has already accepted the proposal.

Every little girl wants to grow up and be a princess. The Miss America organization recognizes that while helping to prepare young ladies with a chance to win a scholarship for their education. Over the weekend I was the judge at the 2011 Miss Washington County and Outstanding Teen pageant. It was exciting to meet the ladies, hear their views during in-depth interviews, and see their talents and pretty dresses on stage. The cutest part of the pageant had to be the little girls princess crowning and them answering hard-hitting questions like, "What is your favorite animal" and "who is your best friend?" But in the end Marissa Huddleston and Sydney Nelson were crowned for 2011 and will go on to compete in the Miss Oregon competition this summer in Seaside July 2nd. Our reigning Miss Oregon, Stephanie Steers, just returned from the Miss America show-down where she finished in the top 15 making us Oregonians very proud! Started in 1921 and now in its 90th year this age old tradition of the Miss America role model lives on and you can follow the excitement and learn more at

It is rose' season! Here in Portland it is marked by the blooming of the cherry blossoms.  The beautiful pink trees that line the streets. Rose' gives red wine makers something to create, serve, and drink when the weather gets warm. Rose' can be made out of any red grape and it can come from anywhere. It is best served chilled and it is a soft lovely pink color, like the petals that fall from the trees.  When shopping for a bottle to kick off warmer weather look for Negroamaro. It is crisp and clean, and comes from the Salento region of Italy. On a map, Italy is shaped like stylish boot and this region can be found on the backside, calf-highth on the boot. Another I like, from Spain, is E'NATE and it recently got a standing ovation at a local wine tasting when paired with smoked fish!  Both are 2009's and both are priced under $15 dollars and available at Blackbird Wine Shop (address below).  Tell then Nicolle sent ya!

Pix Patisserie is known for its eccentric and distinctive style that intertwines flavors and textures.  The founder, Cheryl Wakerhauser (aka Pix), studied to be an astronaut, but then went to study at the patisserie of MOF Philippe Urraca in Southern France.  She moved to Portland in 2001 and set up shop at the Portland Farmers Market.  The next year, the first Pix opened up, bringing European flare and edible art to Portland with an assortment of elegant pastries and handmade chocolates. Pix Patisserie serves an array of dessert wines, Belgian beers, and fine spirits. With two locations, it is clear that the women who studied to be an astronaut makes desserts that Portlander's think are out of this world. You can find more information at http://www.pixpatisserie.com/.

Since I am running the Race for the Roses this Sunday I was excited to learn that Fit Right NW performs a complimentary video gait analysis for new customers. The last pair of athletic shoes I had bought was years ago and specifically made for golfers, so I needed a new pair for the race. The owner Dave helped me get fit for the perfect pair of running shoes using this technology which helps them to accurately determine the perfect pair of shoes for your feet. The video shows the mechanics of your walking or running stride, focusing on the heel contact, mid-stance and toe-off phase of the gait cycle. After they videotaped my stride, they replayed the video for me so I could see for myself how my feet function dynamically. Then they helped me choose the shoes that would give me the support I needed based on the video. Admittedly, probably a better system then just picking out what I think is cute. In addition to all the help with my footwear they showed me around their large store full of stylish apparel. They had many name-brand lines and local designers. I am outfitted head-t0-toe (literally as they have special running socks) for the Race for the Roses this weekend. Check our Fit Right NW and if you want to run the race this Sunday in support of Albertine Kerr you need register at www.race4theroses.org before Friday at noon.

Icebreaker is a very popular athletic clothing line that originates in New Zealand but has its U.S. headquarters right here in Portland. They design for men and women and use deep tones and contrasting stitching. But Icebreaker is mainly known for using only the finest merino wool from high elevation sheep in New Zealand, keeping garments soft and warm with UV protection but eliminating the rough scratchiness that is commonly associated with wool. The first time I zipped up one of their running jackets I was surprised how snug and warm it felt, though light and thin for movement. If you want to see the Icebreaker line for yourself you should come celebrate their launch into the Fit Right NW Portland store. The event will feature Zealand wines, cheeses, and tunes from 6pm-8pm and 20% off MSRP on all new Icebreaker in the store! While you are there you can bid on the silent auction knowing that 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward the relief effort for the Christchurch earthquake with the top two benefactors receiving a free Icebreaker piece of their choice. So, if you are thinking about getting back into shape, start tonight with cheese and wine and your friends from New Zealand. Fit Right NW is located at 2285 NW Raleigh Street, Portland, Oregon 9710.

On Saturday the sun came out and Mr. Perfect and I quickly laced up our hiking boots, grabbed our dog's leash, and headed out to Forest Park. It was a beautiful day and the faster we hiked the warmer it seemed, which was good motivation. Forest Park was the brain child of civic leaders in the 1860's who sought to create a natural preserve in the woods near Portland. You can find 112 bird species and 62 mammals amongst the wide variety of trees and shade-loving plants. The park spreads over 5100 acres and has 70 miles of recreational trails, some which overlook the Willamette River. We walked for hours, saw a couple of super cute dogs and a giant slug on our Saturday adventure. It was so much fun I forgot we were exercising, until the next day when I was a little sore. Get out and get some fresh air this Springtime at Forest Park and we'll see you on the trails.

Aries Apparel is a dynamic and innovative retail store for female athletes and the entire store is dedicated to outfitting girls and women for their sport whether it is basketball, softball, dance, lacrosse, swimming, volleyball, running, or golf. Diana, the owner, opened the store after being frustrated by having to drive all over town to find what she needed. "You shouldn't have to drive to three stores to find a pair of shorts", she has told me. My daughter Kaden and my boyfriend's daughter Lanie did the high-pitched screeching screams tween girls are known for when I took them in there for the first time. In a matter of minutes they had picked out colorful volleyball socks, gym bags, balls, and talked me into buying all three of us matching pink hats that say SMILE. Aries Apparel has a large selection of footwear, clothing and accessories and a user-friendly website that you can shop by sport or brand www.ariesapparel.com. Right now until March 27th they are also having a big sidewalk sale featuring product as low as $4.99 and 20% off all NIKE field shorts! Aries Apparel is located at 1890 NW 188th Avenue, Hillsboro Oregon, 97006 and can be reached at 503-690-1900.

As a little girl, my friend Crystal grew up in a haunted house. "I was only three years old at the time but have a few profound memories and experiences. I always believed this kept me "awake" through my life to truly know that there is really another side", she told me. As an adult she embarked on a over decade long spiritual path with a master teacher to work on advancing her skills of clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance, and clairsentience. Since then she has cleared many homes of lost souls and dark and negative energies. If you feel, lets say "joined", then you want a professional and not a camera-seeking hack to help you. Crystal told me she often feels frustrated when watching all these ghost hunter television shows because "it is like they are searching in the dark with limited understanding and skill". Her main focus is to help people clear out unwanted energy in houses, businesses, and properties so they can feel comfortable in their space.  A sort of ghostbuster if you will. Who you gonna call?

I would call Milo's a fancy comfort food cafe but I know the owners, Marianne and Loren would argue their is nothing fancy about it. The little restaurant prides itself on big taste, with quality ingredients cooked to perfection. They opened their doors is 1999 and I walked in with my baby daughter to try out the "new" place. We've been regulars ever since. There is even a picture of my tween daughter and I that hangs on their "Hero's" wall! The only thing we did that is worth honoring is eating way too much, laughing way too loud, and telling our favorite server "Red" too many secrets through the years. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but newbies should start with their brunch. Mmmm, brunch. With seven different kinds of eggs benedict it is hard to pick a favorite.  You can get it with smoked salmon, crab cakes, petite tenderloin, you name it! This weekend the brunch special is a corned beef benedict! I like the half traditional with half blackstone, it is a Canadian bacon AND peppered bacon mix! It is not on the menu but I've been telling them for years it should be...called "the Nicolle" of course.  The menu has a large selection of other items with local ingredients and their is something on the menu for even the pickiest eater. Children love the tiny plastic mermaids that come in drinks, Moms notice the hand made art from school children that hangs above the booths and the daring appreciate the giant hot sauce collection on the counter.  You can learn more and wet your whistle by looking over their great website that even gives you some recipes, www.MiloCityCafe.com. Find good food in a great neighborhood with the nicest staff in time at Mlilo's City Cafe located at 1325 NE Broadway, Portland Oregon 97232. Here is the on-air feature that aired on Charlie FM NicolleKnowsMilos.

A firkin is an old English unit of volume. Casks in this size (themselves called firkins) are the most common container for cask ale. A couple days before Saint Patrick's Day the good people at Bridgeport Brewing load up a "Firkin" keg of their seasonal, Highland Ambush into a wheel-barrel and parade it through downtown with a bagpiper.  The journey kicks off at Bridgeport Brewing and ends at Paddy's Irish Bar & Grill on SW Yamhill in time for happy hour to tap the special, seasonal keg. Think of it as St. Practice Day! The celebrated beer is Highland Ambush and it has some history in Portland. It was first brewed in the 1980's as a special beer for the BrewPub at BridgePort, and is made its triumphant return more than 20 years later! Stuart MacLean Ramsay, then pub manager, conceptualized the brew to pay homage to his Scottish heritage. I've been told by Dan Wecker, that this yearâs Highland Ambush takes inspiration from the original ale using NW pale ale malt along with a Scottish crystal and the hopping rate has been toned down to help highlight the complementing vanilla from the American oak bourbon barrels and caramel-toffee malt nuances. Mmmm, sounds good! Frosty beer with a side of history...cheers!

The best thing about Kenton Station years and years ago was the head bartender James. He was sweet, helpful and always happy to see you when you walked through the door. The locals would drive by and see if James was working, and if he wasn't they would just keep driving. Well, James eventually bought the place and now it is the neighborhood haunt in downtown Kenton it was always intended to be. Right next to the giant Paul Bunyan statue, the only big restaurant and bar in tiny downtown Kenton needed to be a little bit of everything, and appeal to everyone. Which is why it has an incredible kids menu featuring the largest hot dog ever seen (outside of Vegas), pool, darts, games for kids, lotto, great food, and "the game" always on. Last time I was there I saw four babies with new Mom's and a bachelorette party celebrating! That is Kenton Station for you. I have eaten many a bacon cheeseburger in this local hot-spot and encourage you to stop by and try one! Take a walk around the tiny town and admire the new library, cozy cafes and beautiful park in Portland's newest old neighborhood. Learn more at http://kentonstationportland.com/.

Are you a biker Momma? Or Papa? Not the kind with a Harley leather vest but the kind with a water bottle and a bike lock? Portland is known for it's biker-friendly roadways and abundance of bicyclist trails, teams, rides and retailers. Even the chief of the U.S. Marshals and City Mayor can be found proudly sporting their helmets walking into work. So it should come as no surprise that our AAA club in the first in the U.S. to offer bicycle service. Service is only available within the AAA Oregon/Idaho coverage area, which includes Oregon and the southern 34 counties of Idaho! Basically, we are special. The bicycle service is included with their AAA Plus and above memberships, and they'll come and pick you and your bicycle up if you break down, and take you up to 25 miles. Some cyclists want to be taken home, some to work, and others want to go directly to a bike repair shop...it is up to you! Service applies to all bicycles and tandems, including rental bicycles and even unicycles! With AAA you don't have to let a bump in the road stop slow you down. You can find out more about your safety and coverage options at:

Miss Nicolle Camarata does her part to support and celebrate local business! That was a quote I saw about me on the printer here at Charlie FM. A sales rep had put it on a proposal and it made me smile. It is fun being Portland's pied piper pf shopping, especially when a huge new store opens up! A 3,000 square foot luxury boutique has opened on Hawthorne featuring high-end clothing, shoes, jewelry, books, art, house wares, collectibles and furniture. It might surprise you that it is Oregon's newest Goodwill store! We all want to be green and save some green so the new "fancy" store is a great addition to Portland. The Goodwill Luxury Boutique is filled with brand name merchandise at a discount. You will find Versace, Armani, Lucky, William Rast, St. John, Burberry and much much more. The new store is twice the size of the luxury downtown Portland location and nearly 93-cents of every dollar you spend there will go directly to fund their community job programs. In all of their programs combined, just last year alone, well over 27,000 people with barriers in NW Oregon and SW Washington were served. So shopping at Goodwill (and Goodwill Luxury Boutiques) is good for the environment, good for you wallet, good for your style, and good for our community. The new store is located at 3557 SE Hawthorne and is open daily 9am-9pm.

When cartoon character Bob the Builder asks "Can we do it?", everybody yells "Yes we can!" Well, everyone who can afford to take on a home improvement project at least. Supplies to be a do-it-yourselfer can get expensive. The Home Depot & Lowe's employees by my house know me on a first name basis! When I walk into the massive big box chains and hear, "Hi Nicolle" I know that I have dropped some serious dough there. But there is a more affordable, independent store on Mississippi Avenue that is a resale store for all the same things...but for way less. They have sinks, toilets, doors, windows, light fixtures, ceiling fans, shutters, cabinets, counters, tile, vanities, etc. Even if you are not remodeling a home this is also a great place to go to pick out your next project. Last summer my daughter Kaden and I got a couple old trunks here for a steal and repainted and put old vintage travel stickers and keys on them. It was a fun way to get crafty and make something unique and beautiful again. The Mississippi Rebuilding Center is located at 3625 N. In 1989 two love birds opened a 600 square foot pizza place.  It was a labor of love and dream come true for Tracy and her husband Marc Frankel. The little hole-in-the-wall (her words, not mine)  gave Portlanders new choices and creative toppings and the word spread and the line grew. Now more then twenty years later the two are still going strong personally and professionally! The little pizza place has expanded to the Pizzicato pizza chain and has sixteen locations. All of which feature half priced wine and beer on Wednesdays...when you are half way through your week. My daughter and I eat at the Fremont location very very often and the staff of handsome boys couldn't be nicer. Kaden always gets Pepperoni but I try all the new toppings, whatever is spiciest and the pizza of the month. For March it is wild mushroom with red onions and chevre cheese. YUMMY! Check them out because it is always nice to support local business, pizza, and love.

Across the nation, Portland, Oregon, is seen as a model of civil engineering and livability. And when you fly into PDX you can see the beautiful Rose City from a visitor's angle. It is so green, bordered by blue bodies of water and just stunning. But the view is fleeting...until now. A new book called Portland From The Air is full of Oregon's landmarks from up above. Everything from bridges to the bank tower is shown in one amazing photograph after another. The book is the first in the Birds Eye View Series and presents Portland in a unique, new, airborne perspective.  Photographer Russ Heinl captures the essence of the city in a broad and brilliant way and Sallie Tisdale accompanies his work with an essay that enables you to see this quintessentially American city in all its sophisticated yet earthly complexity. In the book it says, "Portland charms its residents and visitors with an unparalleled grace." I couldn't agree more. I have long said that this city is my first true love and I thoroughlyenjoyed flipping through the pages of this book and seeing it from a new view. On page 40 I even got to see where I had my first kiss to the man I am going to marry, pretty awesome!  Portland From The Air is a fascinating book about a fascinating city and every Portlander should own this book.

Kids grow like weeds and always seem to have drawers full of clothes that don't fit them. So last week at my house we went through closets and drawers to reduce and recycle. Three bags to Goodwill later we noticed a little shopping was in order for some new items for Spring. Fred Meyers was having a huge sale and clearance was an additional 40-70% off! Everything from camouflage cargo shorts to ruffled curtains were on sale and priced to move. Racks and racks of clothes and merchandise scattered around the store on long tables. We got basic tee's, shorts, and some home decor.  The kids even had fun shopping too, as you can see. If you want to fill up your drawers or spruce up for Spring without emptying your wallet head to one of the several locations of Fred Meyers because the sale is still going on!

My friend Kalka spends a lot of time in downtown Vancouver for her work. So when I asked her where a good place to eat was, she was quick to say Rosemary's Cafe. My fiancee and I walked hand-in-hand into the charming cafe that reminded us of a granny's house.  The place smelled like cookies and the staff wore mis-matched aprons in vintage patterns...just like my Nana's house. The breakfast and lunch place offered everything you would expect to find but the menu also promised that they had the 'world's best chicken salad" sandwich. Obviously curious we tried the prized menu item and it was wonderful! It was very different and featured pineapple, but wasn't too sweet. We sat by the window and sipped tea out of quaint floral cups and saucers and watched the rain come down outside. It was the perfect place to be right then and we loved it. Kalka was right. If you can't go to your grandmother's house then pop into Rosemary's Cafe located at 1001 Main Street, Vancouver, Washington 98660 and can be reached at 360-737-7611.

When you have children you meet a lot of parents. And when you have a shopping website (www.NicolleShops.com) you visit a lot of stores. So, it was only natural that I would become interested when one of Kaden's school mates Moms opened up her own store. I had watched the Mompreneur named Rose make beautiful hand-made pillows out of her home and was excited when the business grew and moved to a little space on N.E. Fremont.  Named after her nick-name, Rosabode, is full of girly, flirty, furry items.  In addition to pillows and throws you can find funky faux fur vests, tunics, skirts, dresses, gloves, belts, scarves, hats and accessories. My daughter Kaden and I went in there right before Valentine's and she fell in love with a giant pink hat that looked like it would be worn Where the Wild Things Are. It came in several colors and patterns but she chose hot pink (that's my girl)! She has worn that hat everyday since and wouldn't even take it off for a family nerf gun fight.  Rosabode will even do custom orders and measured and made me a black dress for an upcoming event!  Cute, colorful and usually sewing all day in the back of her little shop, you can find Rosabode at 4225 NE Fremont Street, Portland, Oregon 97213 and learn more at www.rosabode.com.

When I was a child I used to tell my Mom that I didn't like seafood. She told me "that's like saying you don't like music, because their are so many different kinds".  Years later, while I went to college I worked at some of the nicest seafood restaurants in the region and got to sample hundreds of different dishes focused on fish. Mom was right. So many different kinds, so many different preparations, so many different pairings that change the taste and texture! While there, I worked as a bartender to pay my way through school and also had the same learning curve when it came to wine. How could all those look-a-like bottles be so different in flavor and mouth-feel? It was fun to experiment with pairings and prepare for the inevitable request for suggestions. Now, all grown up and a Mom myself, I try to get creative with entertaining to ensure that my family and friends try new things and have a great time. With a simple self serve buffet of food and drinks you can relax and enjoy the party.  I really like the Trader Joe's fish in the freezer section because its flash frozen, affordable and they have a large selection. When we are embarking on a new recipe (like below) and don't know which wine would complement it, we ask the guys at Great Wine Buys. The gentlemen there are so sweet and helpful they should call the shop Great Wine Guys. They feature wines from regions around the world and can help create the perfect menu for your in-home wine and seafood festival. Trader Joe's has multiple locations and Great Wine Buys can be found at 1515 NE Broadway, Portland, Oregon 97232 and reached at 503-287-2897. Tell them Nicolle sent ya!

It was my friend's birthday last week and she wanted to go to a new place that just opened up to celebrate. I was excited to go somewhere new and we met at Frank's Noodle House on NE Broadway. You can't help notice as you walk up the stairs that this restaurant is in an old Portland house that has been converted for commercial use. There was a line to put your name in and a bit of a wait as the new hot-spot has been popular since opening its' doors. Frank's reputation for being a great chef lived on after he left Du Kuh Bee in Beaverton.  His new menu featured a large selection of Chinese family-style entrees and Korean barbecue.  The noodles are hand made and were much larger then I expected. They were good, but the pork fried rice was amazing. It had a smokey flavor that was very tasty. We also loved the chicken barbecue which was moist, tender and very flavorful. If you like Chinese cuisine served in a casual atmosphere then you will like the food at Frank's Noodle House. But bring your patience with you because the service is sloooooow. Many patrons, including us, had to repeatedly ask for forgotten drinks, appetizers, the check, etc. But, good things come to those that wait. Frank's Noodle House is located at 822 NE Broadway Portland, Oregon, 97232 and can be reached at 503-288-1007. They are open Monday through Saturday 11am-9pm.

I live with a handsome pure bred boxer puppy named Mojo. We got him last year and he is sweet, funny and super super smart⦠he knows two languages and three dozen tricks! We A-D-O-R-E that dog and make sure to treat and feed him well. When we first got him we researched where to locally buy great quality food at a reasonable price. Our search lead us to All for Paws pet store. They feature all human-grade ingredients with no by-products, no fillers, and no chemical preservatives.  In addition to food they also have toys, treats, dishes, collars, leashes, gifts, cat towers, and lots of locally made products. There are a lot of great pet stores in Portland but this is my favorite because of the âshop dogâ named Fancy Pants. Fancy Pants comes to work everyday ready to meet and greet two-legged and four-legged customers and does some of the funniest tricks I have ever seen! If you go in try to get him to âgo crazyâ because you will crack up! His co-worker (and owner) Kelli is very sweet and knowledgeable and always very helpful if you are a pet lover looking for a pet store. Tell them Nicolle sent ya! All for Paws is located at 1430 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97210 and you can find out more information at www.all-for-paws.com.

Valentine's Day will be even sweeter this year with the debut of my new show!! Mornings with Nicolle Camarata from 6-9am weekdays on your favorite station 97.1 Charlie FM. I am the new girl here but am no stranger to morning radio after co-hosting on Z100 and the BUZZ.  Since you and I will be spending mornings together (sounds kinky) I should tell you a little something about myself. I like to write, decorate with vintage finds, paint, cook, and spend time with my favorite people. If I could spend every day by a body of water, I would. I believe that people won't remember what you said or what you did but they will always remember how they felt when they were around you.  I don't like fake flowers, I don't wear the color blue, and no matter how often we talk I seem to always owe my Mom a phone call. My daughter is named Kaden and she is the hands down winner of my favorite person contest:). I am on Twitter, Facebook and have a shopping blog at www.NicolleShopsPortland.com and you can also see pictures and learn more at www.Nicolle.me. So, now that I have introduced myself...please tell me something about YOU.
